DTN COMMENTS:  Some light trade has been reported in parts of Nebraska at 
$297, $2 higher than last week's weighted averages. Bids of $190 are 
noted at $190 in the South, but so far, are being passed. Asking prices 
remain around $192 to $194 in the South. A more significant trade volume 
will likely be delayed until later today and/or Friday. 

According to the Actual Slaughter Under Federal Inspection report for the 
period of November 17 to November 23, 2024, the total cattle slaughter 
was 635,308 head, down 4,059 head from a year ago. Dressed weights for 
steers were 952, 4 lower than the prior week, heifers were 861 off 5 from 
the previous week.   

Today's slaughter totaled 118,000 head, 8,000 head below a year ago, but 
not comparable to last week's holiday kill. Cattle futures closed sharply 
lower on both live (off 112 to 200) and feeder (off 127 to 210) 
contracts. Beef cutouts are expected to close mixed with light to 
moderate box movement.
